Because our sales managers work primarily from their respective national regions, this training program was designed specifically for them to build relationships with employees who work at the corporate facility and to develop a deeper understanding of the day-to-day operation of Cyl-Tec.
During Chris’s visit, he met with various Cyl-Tec departments, such as, customer service, shipping, production, engineering, inside sales, finance, and marketing.
“My week there was really fantastic,” said Chris. “Now, I have more personal connections with many of them.”
“For example, a lot of my job is working with the customer service department. It can get very intense for them with answering phones, writing quotes, changing orders, shipping, keeping inventory, and handling problems. They work very hard at their jobs.”
“Because I was able to see firsthand how they operate, it changed my perspective. Now I have a much greater appreciation of how they keep our business operating more smoothly and how they keep our customers happy. They dealt with a lot more than I realized.”
“I was especially glad to have some time with those guys – taking them out to lunch and getting to know them on a personal level.”
Learning from the Best
Chris also spent a couple days at the production plant working side-by-side with our skilled technicians who produce Cyl-Tec’s high pressure cylinder and cryogenic vessel product lines.
“I job shadowed several workers at different stations within the plant and got to work with the best of the best!” said Chris.
“Some of the stations I assisted in were cylinder neck ring installation, acetylene prep, stamping, valving, shipping, painting, fill lines, polishing, cryogenic repair, and bev carb plumbing. I discovered that our production workers are highly skilled and very versatile – being able to work at other stations whenever needed.”
Chris continued, “One of my tasks during my time at the cryogenic facility was to build a bev carb tank topworks from scratch. After watching one of our technicians assemble a tank as an example, it was then my turn. Yeah, sure… I thought. He made it look so easy!”
A New Perspective
Chris is the second regional sales manager who has gone through the training program this year.
This team-building experience not only gave him a new perspective of Cyl-Tec’s day-to-day operation, but it also helped him develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of the skills needed to manage and run the production plant.
That added awareness and firsthand knowledge are now an integral part of Chris’s sales skill set. And, will undoubtedly provide more valuable service and expertise as he takes care of Cyl-Tec customers.
